When you wake up naturally in the morning and engage in a healthy routine of meditation an exercise, you can enjoy the positive outlook and general health benefits that come with it. Here are 9 tips you can use to ensure the best start to the day.
Routine, Routine, Routine
Make a commitment to setting goals for the day and make an effort for self-care. Give yourself the time and energy, and the goals will help maximize your productivity.
Do not rush around; make extra time by getting up earlier, so you can get ready at your own pace in the morning. When you make extra time for yourself, and do not rush, you will have greater mental clarity, peace of mind and be in the best position to face the challenges of the day.
Tips on getting up 1 Hour earlier
The best way to get up an hour earlier is to go to bed an hour earlier. Remember the importance of a routine, but make sure that routine is realistic and something you can stick to. If you’re used to going to bed at 11pm, start to unwind by 9:30pm so you can be in bed at 10pm, setting yourself up to wake up at 6am instead of 7am.
Imagine this extra hour in the morning and how this will gi9ve you so much opportunity to focus on yourself, have breakfast without rushing, taking some time out to meditate. This sensation will give you such a positive boost and set you up for the day.
Clear Your Mind with Meditation
After rising in the morning, sit on the floor with your legs crossed in front of you.
Close your eyes, place your hands (palms facing up) on your knees, and breathe in. As thoughts come into your mind, accept them, acknowledge them, and release them.
Refocus on the breath. Breathe in deeply for a count of three, and breathe out for an equal amount of time.
If you’re seeking direction or focus, ask a question in line with your goals.
You might not get the answer right away, but recognize that the journey of the day ahead will take you closer to finding the answer.
When you wake up, your body typically has been lying still for many hours and so stretching exercises can be useful in getting your muscles and circulation going. Walk around the house or apartment for 5 minutes as you fully wake up.
Drink a large glass of water; hydration is one of the best ways to avoid headaches in the morning.
Sit down on the floor, and stretch your neck, arms, legs, torso and back – 20 seconds per stretch.
Mindful thinking involves stopping your thoughts wondering. When carrying out your morning routine such as washing and brushing your teeth, focus on each of these tasks and concentrate on your actions as you do them. This mindful thinking approach will stop your thoughts leading to things in the future which may bring worry or anxiety.
The secret to mindful thinking is staying in the moment.
Set out Your Goals for the Day
Once you have carried out your stretching and meditation, sit at a table with a piece of paper and a pen. Set a timer for 2 minutes.
Start the timer and start writing about what you intend to do that day, any thoughts or worries that occur at that moment. You don’t need to write full sentences, just words or snippets are fine. This process is known as automatic writing, or stream-of-conscious writing.
After the two minutes is up, look at what you have written and try to make sense and focus on the goals you have written.
20-30 Minutes of Cardio-Exercise
Studies consistently show that exercising in the morning leads to a healthier pattern later in the day. Exercising releases endorphins which will give you a natural high; giving you feelings of happiness and mental clarity which will set you on the right path for the day.
Your choice of exercise can be anything you enjoy doing, walking, running, skipping or dancing. Try to spend 20-30 minutes in the morning doing this.
Juice Up with a Green Smoothie
Load up on nutrients by drinking a green smoothie packed with superfoods. Add fresh fruits and vegetables such as apples, oranges, ginger, strawberries, kale and chlorella. Yum! Read more on juicing here.
Load Up on Protein
Getting some protein into your body in the morning will help with brain function and will fill you up, preventing you snacking throughout the day.
Protein also helps repair your muscles. Start your day with some eggs, low-fat cheese, Greek yogurt, peanut butter, beans or seeds.
Or simply try adding some protein powder to a smoothie if that’s what you prefer!
Visualize Your Day Going Effortlessly and Successfully
Exactly the opposite of mindfulness, visualization can be useful to maintain a positive outlook. Picture your day ahead and use your imagination to see it going smoothly with positive outcomes.
Play out the day in your mind as if it is a movie. What you believe in your mind will have a real effect in the world around you. Your positive thoughts will attract positive outcomes.
Use Positive Affirmations
Post positive affirmations around your home; on your fridge, mirror or inside your car. These affirmations will help you maintain a clear focus on what you want to achieve in life.
Review these affirmations regularly to ensure they fit in with you overall life goals.
Set aside an extra hour in the morning so that you can set a routine for your ideal morning. Meditation, exercise, positive affirmations and visualization should all come into play in your morning. This will have a huge impact on your life, making you feel happier, more awake and healthier throughout your day.
